The company is currently expanding its South Florida operations.

Position Summary

This part-time Senior Controller role oversees financial management, reporting, and compliance for the Florida (Miami) segment of SOS. Reporting to the CFO and collaborating closely with the South Florida Managing Director, the controller ensures accurate financial insights, robust internal controls, and strategic input driving profitable growth in the region. The position is fully remote and offers flexibility in work hours and employment arrangements.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closing and reporting processes for Florida operations.
• Provide timely, accurate financial statements including profit & loss, balance sheet, and cash flow for local leadership and headquarters.
• Track and analyze key performance metrics such as project margins, sales, and overhead efficiency, delivering variance analyses and forecasts.
• Manage budgeting and forecasting activities in partnership with the Managing Director - South Florida.
• Evaluate project and client profitability; support pricing strategies and efforts to improve margins.
• Identify cost-saving opportunities and scalable financial processes to support business growth.
• Supervise core accounting functions including accounts payable/receivable, billing, collection, reconciliations, and journal entries.
• Ensure proper revenue recognition in sales and project milestones, including deposits and change orders.
• Maintain strong internal controls and oversee any local bookkeeping functions.
• Handle Florida-specific compliance: sales tax, use tax, exemption certificates, and timely filings necessary for a furniture business.
• Support external financial audits, coordinating with company CFO and external accountants.
• Act as the financial liaison between Miami operations and corporate leadership, maintaining clear communication through digital tools.
• Collaborate with project and sales teams to integrate financial considerations into client projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA certification strongly preferred.
• At least 8 years of progressive experience in accounting/finance, with 3-5 years in a Controller or senior leadership capacity.
• Comprehensive experience managing full accounting cycles and reporting for multi-location businesses.
• Deep understanding of GAAP, especially in project-based and inventory/revenue recognition accounting.
• Proficiency with accounting or ERP software such as QuickBooks or NetSuite.
• Exceptional analytical and communication skills, capable of explaining financial data to non-financial stakeholders.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and effectively in a fully remote environment.
• Legal work authorization in the United States is required.
• Preferred experience in contract furniture, commercial interiors, design services, or project-based business models.
• Specific knowledge of Florida sales tax regulations is advantageous.
• Proven track record in remote support for field or multi-location business operations.

Position Details

• Employment type: Part-time, approximately 15-25 hours per week, with flexible scheduling to meet monthly close deadlines.
• Location: Fully remote work from anywhere in the U.S., with occasional travel to Miami (2-4 times annually) for key meetings or onboarding.
• Reporting to CFO with close cooperation with Managing Director – South Florida.
• Compensation: Competitive, based on experience; open to part-time salaried or hourly consulting arrangements.
