Role Overview
Join TLI Group's expanding Estimating and Engineering team as a Senior Building & Civil Estimator. This position involves leading and supporting estimate preparations and cost planning for diverse civil, structural, and building projects. The role demands producing competitive, compliant tenders that align with TLI Group’s objectives, servicing both private and public clients, and ensuring technical quality alongside commercial feasibility. Collaboration across engineering, project management, business development, and commercial units is essential.
Key Duties
- Compile detailed cost estimates and tender documents for civil engineering and construction initiatives.
- Engage with clients, engineers, and surveyors to clarify project scope and budgetary limits.
- Craft pricing approaches and collaborate closely with the Precontracts Commercial Manager for superior tender submissions.
- Interpret tender materials, technical drawings, and specifications thoroughly.
- Source competitive quotes by negotiating with suppliers and subcontractors, ensuring pricing accuracy.
- Update and manage internal estimating tools including databases, cost libraries, and benchmarking resources.
- Participate in site assessments and pre-tender discussions to evaluate project conditions and risks.
- Analyze risks and recommend mitigation measures.
- Provide leadership and guidance to junior estimating staff as necessary.
- Support post-tender analyses and assist commercial handovers to project teams.
- Stay informed on market trends and competitor pricing strategies.
- Ensure compliance with Health & Safety regulations, building codes, and procurement protocols.
Qualifications and Experience
- Degree in Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or equivalent qualifications or experience.
- Between 5 and 10 years of progressive experience in construction or civil engineering estimate roles.
- Proven skills in preparing tenders for civil and building projects with minimal supervision.
- Knowledge of contract frameworks such as NEC, FIDIC, and Public Works Contracts is advantageous.
- Strong analytical, numerical, and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency in MS Office; experience with Cubit estimating software preferable though training is available.
- Possess a valid driving license and availability for occasional site visits.
