Position Overview
This role is based in Auckland and focuses on validating the quality of Invenco by GVR’s products such as Outdoor Payment Terminals (OPT), Forecourt Controller middleware, and developed applications. It centers on designing and executing automated test scripts across hardware, embedded firmware, and software platforms to confirm compliance with company and industry standards.
Core Responsibilities
- Develop test strategies and plans derived from business requirements and project estimates.
- Design detailed test scripts based on requirement analysis and message specifications, defining scenarios and expected outcomes.
- Set up and verify hardware/software test environments, occasionally performing tests at external sites when required.
- Address and clarify functional issues, escalating risks appropriately.
- Develop and uphold standard documentation, systems, and procedures to ensure repeatable, measurable testing processes.
- Manage test workload and timelines, ensuring deliverables are met and progress communicated.
- Provide technical support during system integration and user acceptance phases for client-installed systems.
- Execute product tests, including software upgrades, feature additions, customizations, and end-of-life redesign compliance.
- Engage actively in OPT support, SDK, and TAL upgrades, ensuring quality deliveries.
- Collaborate closely with Market Engineering, Product Development, and PMO teams to meet project schedules and quality benchmarks.
- Continuously seek enhancements to quality assurance and development processes, maintaining audit trails and supporting pilot testing.
- Automate testing across the product spectrum, developing reliable test software to meet timelines and documentation standards.
- Guide project management through technical input and advocate organizational processes.
- Create and verify comprehensive software documentation, including test plans, user guides, and issue resolutions.
- Oversee software testing and release activities, coordinating builds, educating test teams, and mentoring junior staff.
Technical Skills & Education
- Minimum eight years of engineering or hardware/software testing experience with established methodologies.
- At least five years of proficiency in Java or C++ development.
- Tertiary qualification in engineering or electronics.
- Strong expertise in automated test design and execution, including regression and performance testing.
- Proficiency in Linux commands and scripting.
- Experience in firmware testing, hardware-software integration, and embedded software validation with automation.
- Skilled in API testing using tools like Postman and REST Assured for functional and integration tests.
- Ability to develop automated tests for middleware functionality and performance assurance.
- Familiarity with test automation frameworks such as TestNG.
- Hands-on experience with continuous integration and deployment tools like Jenkins and GitLab CI to streamline testing and releases.
- Understanding of software development lifecycle and Agile methodologies.
- Ability to demonstrate testing maturity emphasizing measurability and repeatability.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Willingness to travel occasionally for business purposes.
Desirable Skills
- Experience with retail petroleum automation or payment system projects.
- Knowledge of cryptographic algorithms and key management relevant to EMV transactions and PCI DSS compliance.
