About the Role
Join Coinbase as a Risk & Monitoring Analyst IV on the Operational Risk and Controls team within Global Financial Crimes Operations. In this critical position, you will oversee quality assurance reviews of Transaction Monitoring System (TMS) investigations supporting Coinbase's Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Countering the Financing of Terrorism (CFT) program. The role involves enhancing consistency in case management, identifying procedural gaps, and collaborating with multiple departments such as Operations, Compliance, Analytics, and Learning & Development to convert quality insights into actionable operational enhancements. Coinbase operates remotely but requires quarterly in-person collaboration sessions known as "surges."
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate TMS cases using established quality assurance rubrics, including sampling for Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) and risk-based sampling across priority compliance areas.
- Lead calibration meetings, provide office hours, and offer structured support to analysts to promote consistent application and deepen understanding of complex procedures.
- Perform root cause analyses on systemic quality issues and translate findings into actionable improvements in processes, training, and procedures.
- Collaborate with second line defense stakeholders to deliver timely and well-supported responses to review and audit outcomes.
- Create and present weekly metrics, dashboards, and trend analyses that highlight risks, performance trends, and opportunities for enhancement to senior leadership.
- Train new employees, validate practice cases, and provide targeted feedback to accelerate readiness and improve quality outcomes among analysts.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- At least six years of experience in quality assurance, quality control, audit, or financial crime investigations within a regulated financial institution.
- Strong understanding of BSA/AML laws, regulations, and requirements, with demonstrated ability to apply risk-based judgments to complex investigation reviews.
- Possession of ACAMS certification or a comparable AML credential.
- Proficiency in creating compliance metrics, dashboards, and performance reports tailored for operational and compliance stakeholders, with advanced skills in Google Sheets/Excel and Google Slides/PowerPoint.
- Experience presenting quality assurance findings, root cause analyses, and procedural recommendations to senior compliance and operations leaders across multiple regions.
- Demonstrated responsible use of generative AI technologies, ensuring human oversight to produce business-ready results and improve workflow efficiency, costs, and quality.
Additional Information
- The position targets an annual base salary of €67,000, excluding potential equity, bonuses, and benefits such as medical, dental, and vision insurance.
- Applicants can submit up to three applications within a six-month timeframe.
- Coinbase is an Equal Opportunity Employer and considers all qualified applicants regardless of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, veteran status, or genetic information. Applicants with criminal records will be evaluated consistent with applicable laws.
