About the Role
Lancashire County Council is seeking committed Residential Child Care Workers to join the newly established SPACE Hub in Accrington. This role is a permanent, full-time position working 37 hours per week with a salary ranging from £28,142 to £32,061 annually, plus additional pay for shift work, weekend hours, and sleep-in duties. Visa sponsorship is not available for this role.
About SPACE Hub
SPACE (Supporting and Preventing Additional Care Experiences) Hubs deliver an innovative and community-focused approach to supporting children, young people, and their families across Lancashire. The hubs focus on four main services:
- Preventing care placements by providing immediate support to preserve families.
- Assisting children in care to safely reunite with their families.
- Stabilizing current care arrangements such as Special Guardianship Orders and fostering to avoid sudden changes.
- Providing tailored support within specific programs for youth and homelessness prevention.
Role Responsibilities
As a Residential Child Care Worker, you will offer early targeted intervention and support to families facing complex challenges by working closely with children, parents, and carers both in homes and community environments. Your duties include:
- Delivering one-to-one support to foster emotional well-being and resilience in children and young people.
- Planning and facilitating activities that boost self-confidence and foster positive relationships.
- Collaborating with schools, social workers, and other professionals to ensure a unified approach to care.
- Working on a rota system encompassing day, evening, weekend, and sleep-in shifts.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will have a passion for empowering families and children, demonstrated by:
- Previous experience working with older children and young people in community settings.
- Strong ability to build constructive and meaningful relationships.
- Knowledge of child development needs and relevant legal frameworks.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to manage challenging behaviors sensitively.
- A genuine commitment to listening and spending quality time with children, as valued by the children themselves.
