About Mesabi Metallics

Mesabi Metallics is building a future-focused metals and mining platform centered on sustainable practices, safety, and environmental responsibility. The company is advancing a major iron ore mining and pelletization project, along with a 2.5 MTPA Direct Reduction Iron (DRI) and integrated steel plant, to support the U.S. low-carbon metallics supply chain and the growing electric arc furnace (EAF) steel market.

The organization emphasizes a collaborative workplace where employees are encouraged to contribute, grow professionally, and live the company’s values of sustainability, integrity, inclusivity, innovation, teamwork, determination, and performance.

This role sits within an expanding industrial operation and supports the infrastructure that will help shape the company’s long-term mining, pelletizing, DRI, and steel manufacturing activities.

The role is responsible for helping establish dependable rail movement for raw materials, finished goods, and other industrial freight linked to the company’s mining, pelletizing, DRI, and steel operations. It involves close coordination with engineering teams, railroad partners, contractors, regulators, and internal departments to make sure the rail infrastructure is safe, efficient, compliant, and ready for use.

  • Contribute to construction, commissioning, and startup activities for rail infrastructure.
  • Support rail operations planning, maintenance approaches, and long-term infrastructure improvements.
  • Spot operational risks and define mitigation measures for rail transport.
  • Help ensure adherence to railroad, safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.
  • Track rail performance indicators and contribute to ongoing improvement efforts.
  • Work with operations, procurement, engineering, and supply chain teams to align rail logistics with production needs.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Transportation, Logistics, Supply Chain, or a closely related discipline is preferred.
  • At least 8 years of experience in railway systems, industrial rail operations, transportation infrastructure, or large capital projects.
  • Hands-on background in rail system design, permit handling, construction support, and operational rollout.
  • Strong knowledge of railroad operations, rail yards, track systems, switching, and industrial rail logistics.
  • Prior experience working with Class I railroads, contractors, engineering firms, and regulatory bodies.
  • Experience in mining, steel, energy, heavy industry, or major infrastructure projects is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of railroad regulations, safety requirements, and operational standards.
