Role overview

In this role, you will own the accuracy and timing of project job-cost reporting across all active work. You will monitor budgets and actuals, flag risks, support financial controls, and partner with project and accounting teams to keep processes running smoothly. A further part of the job is improving project accounting tools, workflows, and internal policies over time.

Key responsibilities

Maintain reliable and up-to-date job cost data for all projects, including budget figures and actual spending.
Review project budgets each week at division or subcontract level, checking quantities, pricing, rates, schedules, and other assumptions to identify risks and suggest corrective actions.
Prepare, analyze, and present weekly and monthly job cost reporting along with action plans and other project monitoring outputs as needed.
Compile monthly progress draws with revised project budgets and supporting documents such as invoices, statutory declarations, change orders, WSIB, and insurance evidence for submission to the Quantity Surveyor within the final five days of each month.
Coordinate with Project Management and Accounting Services to create, approve, and maintain vendor packages, purchase orders, and contracts, and to process and pay vendor invoices in line with Construction Lien Act requirements, including holdback tracking and release.
Work with Project Management to set up and enforce approval workflows and invoice-matching controls against purchase orders and contracts.
Develop and refresh cash flow forecasts for future project draws using updated schedules from Project Management to support cash requirement planning.
Take part in project start-up and close-out meetings by supplying reports and documentation, sharing financial input, and following through on action items.
Continuously assess and improve project accounting systems and processes, and help design and roll out stronger policies and procedures.

Requirements

At least 3 to 5 years of experience in cost control or project accounting within the industry.
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
Solid understanding of budgeting, forecasting, and job cost reporting.
Hands-on experience with accounting software and ERP platforms, plus advanced Excel capability.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills with close attention to detail.
Effective communication and interpersonal abilities for working with project managers, vendors, and accounting teams.
