Job description

About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Project Controls Specialist to provide expert support in managing project controls for a range of infrastructure projects. You'll collaborate with project leaders and teams to ensure successful project delivery through efficient cost management, reporting, risk assessment, scheduling, and governance. As a member of the Transport Services Group, you'll help create connected transport solutions throughout New Zealand while advancing project control practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee project controls and administrative duties across assigned projects.
  • Assist project teams with budgeting, forecasting, scheduling, risk management, and reporting.
  • Maintain and evaluate financial data including cash flow forecasts and variance reports.
  • Coordinate accurate project and programme updates for important stakeholders.
  • Identify, escalate and help manage project risks and challenges.
  • Offer technical advice ensuring project controls align with organizational frameworks.
  • Foster strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders during project lifecycles.
  • Support ongoing enhancement of project management methods, tools, and reporting systems.

Candidate Profile

  • Experience in PMO, programme management, or project delivery environments.
  • Proven expertise in project controls including cost control, scheduling, risk oversight, and reporting.
  • Strong skills in project financial management such as budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Superior organizational ability to juggle multiple priorities effectively.
  • Capable of building collaborative relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proactive in detecting trends and risks and implementing solutions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Background supporting civil engineering, transport, or infrastructure projects.
  • Familiarity with contract administration and reporting, including knowledge of NZS and collaborative contracting models.
  • Experience with project management software and SAP financial systems.
  • A tertiary degree in Business, Commerce, Engineering, or related fields.
  • Professional qualification in project or programme management.

A genuine commitment to understanding and applying Te Ao Māori principles, including tikanga and Te Reo Māori, as well as awareness of Te Tiriti o Waitangi within public service is expected.
