About the role
Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay is looking for a Theatre Programmer to join its Programming department in Singapore. The team shapes artistic and audience development through a mix of free and ticketed events that sit at the heart of the country’s performing arts calendar. The work involves planning, presenting, commissioning and co-producing programmes that engage audiences of different ages and abilities, while supporting both local and international artists.
What you will do
- Design, coordinate and deliver arts programmes and season plans across festivals, series and special projects, including proposing practical programme ideas for the arts centre.
- Handle discussions and negotiations with artists, managers, producers and agents, and act as the primary Esplanade contact throughout planning and delivery.
- Partner with Marketing & Development on publicity, marketing, sponsorship and box-office plans to strengthen visibility, ticket sales and overall revenue.
- Work with operational teams such as Technical Production and Logistics to ensure each programme is implemented smoothly.
- Guide artist liaison officers, project assistants and interns who are assigned to the projects.
- Stay informed about current and emerging trends in the local and international performing arts landscape and use that knowledge as an internal reference point.
- Prepare budgets for arts activities, performances or exhibitions, including projected returns where relevant, and monitor spending against approved limits.
- Help create and refine standard operating procedures and manuals for presenting and commissioning arts performances and for day-to-day department operations.
- Assist local arts groups and artists in presenting their work at Esplanade, while encouraging programmes that build wider audience appreciation for the arts.
Requirements
- A degree, or recognised training in arts management, stage management, theatre production, or a closely related area; equivalent professional experience may also be considered.
- For programming roles in the performing arts, exposure or training in music, dance, theatre, or children and youth programmes will be an advantage.
- At least 3 years of relevant experience in performing arts or visual arts programming.
- Strong understanding of major international developments and trends across art forms and genres, along with a solid grasp of Singapore’s arts scene and local audience preferences.
- Excellent organisational and people skills, with the ability to work effectively in large, collaborative teams.
- Capability to shape ideas into workable projects and see programmes through to completion.

Compensation
The stated salary range for this position is SGD 3,300 to SGD 4,200 per month.
