Job Overview
The Probation Officer acts as a representative of the Court and will be assigned to a specific unit based on departmental needs. These units may include casework, presentence investigations or pre-dispositional report writing, intake, and court team assignments.
Key Responsibilities
- Apply and manage the Indiana Risk Assessment System in daily activities.
- Maintain consistent communication with clients, legal counsel, treatment providers, placement agencies, and other relevant parties.
- Examine documentation related to clients' legal and social backgrounds.
- Prepare and complete all necessary court documents and correspondence.
- Provide testimony in court and offer informed recommendations.
- Interview clients to clearly explain legal supervision requirements.
- Conduct field visits that comply with Indiana Office of Court Services standards.
- Coordinate efforts with counselors, treatment organizations, public and placement agencies as needed.
- Follow all policies and procedures established by the Marion Superior Court.
- Fulfill additional duties as assigned by the Chief Probation Officer while embracing the department’s team-oriented approach.
Qualifications and Requirements
- A Bachelor's degree is the minimum educational requirement.
- Prior internship experience in probation is advantageous.
- Candidates must pass the Indiana Probation Officers' Certification Examination within six months of hire.
- Additional certifications and training may be necessary for specialized departmental duties.
- Proficiency in languages such as Spanish, American Sign Language (ASL), Burmese, or others is a plus and may offer a salary bonus.
Working Environment
The role involves a combination of office-based tasks and fieldwork activities.
