Role overview

This position is based in a locally owned and operated store where the focus is on providing health, beauty, and convenience services to the community. The pharmacist is expected to keep the customer at the center of care at all times.

The main purpose of the role is to oversee pharmacy operations during scheduled shifts, offer consultation to customers and health care professionals, work to the full professional scope in delivering pharmacy services, dispense medications, and support the upkeep of the dispensary.

Pharmacy and customer service

Welcome and acknowledge every customer who comes to the pharmacy.
Work in line with all relevant federal, provincial, regulatory, and legal obligations.
Protect customer privacy and ensure consent and confidentiality processes are properly followed.
Provide guidance on prescriptions as well as over-the-counter and behind-the-counter products.
Use the full breadth of expanded professional scope where it falls within your competence.
Remain clearly identifiable to the public while on duty.
Verify that all dispensed prescriptions are accurate and appropriate.
Coordinate with other health care professionals within the circle of care to support patient care.
Keep all records required under legislation, professional standards, and internal policy.

Workflow and inventory management

Manage access to the dispensary with attention to stock control and patient confidentiality.
Review and keep pharmacy workflow queues current every day.
Check will-call bins regularly in accordance with standard operating procedures.
Inspect stock routinely to identify any expired product.
Monitor inventory levels and medication orders placed with wholesalers.
Ensure all documentation and control requirements for substances governed by the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act and related regulations are met, including reporting to Health Canada and other regulatory bodies where required.

Operations

Maintain a professional appearance across pickup and entry stations, counselling and waiting areas, and work islands.
Participate in financial reporting activities as needed.
Review and act on store communications shared through the internal web system.
Prepare incident reports whenever customer or staff medication incidents or privacy issues arise.

Use independent judgment and make decisions when handling issues or resolving problems.
Plan, coordinate, assign, and delegate work, while coaching pharmacy colleagues.
Help grow the business, lead by example, and support enterprise initiatives.
Show a strong commitment to excellent customer service.
Bring strong relationship-building skills and a high level of professionalism.
Apply solid problem-solving ability, including creating and carrying out action plans.
Use computer systems confidently; experience with pharmacy software is a strong advantage.
Follow all health and safety procedures to support a safe workplace.
Complete required training and optional continuing education sessions as needed.
