About the Role
Located in Ellerslie, Auckland, this full-time fixed-term position runs until 30 November 2026. The role involves much more than just processing pay; it demands precision to ensure every employee receives accurate pay punctually. This opportunity arises within the People & Culture team of a leading fresh produce company in New Zealand, during a time of transition.
This position requires managing a diverse and complex payroll landscape, supporting employees across multiple business units and locations, with varied employment agreements and pay structures. Success depends on a deep understanding of payroll legislation, collective and individual agreements, and the ability to navigate different pay frequencies and sets.
Key Responsibilities
- Accurately processing weekly and fortnightly payroll cycles on schedule.
- Managing payroll updates including changes in employee status, leave records, and deductions.
- Handling final payments, bonuses, and other special payroll actions.
- Applying complex collective employment agreements and payroll legislation correctly.
- Ensuring compliance with ACC, KiwiSaver, and statutory payroll requirements.
- Addressing payroll inquiries promptly while delivering excellent support to employees and managers.
- Assisting with payroll reporting, reconciliations, and month-end closing activities.
- Contributing to payroll projects and the ongoing improvement of payroll processes.
Candidate Profile
- Proven hands-on experience managing complex payrolls for both salaried and hourly wage staff.
- Competent use of DataPay payroll software is essential.
- Solid understanding of the Holidays Act, payroll rules, and taxation obligations.
- Experience with diverse pay groups, employment agreements, and contract types.
- Exceptional attention to detail complemented by strong analytical abilities.
- Proficiency in Excel and working across multiple systems confidently.
- Demonstrates a proactive mindset with the ability to prioritize competing workload demands.
- Familiarity with SAP HCM, time and attendance systems, or payroll reporting is advantageous.
