Job description

Overview

A well-established, founder-led manufacturing company is searching for an experienced Payroll Officer to manage the payroll operations for approximately 200 employees spanning multiple business entities.

This role is highly operational and hands-on, ideal for someone who enjoys working in a fast-moving environment and is comfortable handling payroll processes that are largely manual.

Key Duties

  • Handle end-to-end processing of fortnightly payroll for a workforce of around 200 employees.
  • Manage two alternating weekly pay cycles within each fortnight.
  • Gather and reconcile timesheet data from three distinct time and attendance platforms.
  • Manually assess overtime, various allowances, penalties, and other payroll-related calculations.
  • Ensure strict compliance with applicable Awards, Enterprise Agreements, and payroll regulations.
  • Execute processing of PAYG tax, Superannuation contributions, Single Touch Payroll (STP), and payroll tax obligations.
  • Maintain detailed employee records including leave balances and payroll updates.
  • Prepare reconciliation reports, detailed payroll analysis, and submit for management review.
  • Address payroll inquiries and coordinate with site teams to resolve timesheet inconsistencies.

Candidate Profile

  • Proven experience managing end-to-end payroll, preferably in manufacturing, construction, or similar sectors.
  • Expertise working with predominantly hourly-paid workforces in manual or semi-manual payroll systems.
  • Familiarity with MYOB Payroll is highly desirable.
  • Comprehensive understanding of Award and Enterprise Agreement interpretations, with preference for Manufacturing and Construction Award knowledge.
  • Experience in extracting and managing data from time and attendance software.
  • Strong capabilities in payroll reporting and reconciliations.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and skill in investigating payroll discrepancies.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to engage confidently with operational teams.
  • Capability to work autonomously within a small finance team environment.

Compensation and Work Conditions

  • Salary is negotiable and based on experience, generally within a range of $90,000 to $100,000 plus superannuation.
  • This is a permanent, full-time opportunity within a stable and established manufacturing business.
  • Join a supportive and collaborative finance group.
  • Flexible start and finish times can be negotiated.
  • Position requires full onsite presence; remote work is not offered.
  • Work location is central and well-served by public transport including Southern Cross train station, trams, and buses; onsite parking is unavailable.
