About the Role and Company

BURNCO Rock Products Ltd is a prominent supplier of construction materials serving communities throughout North America. Dedicated to quality, safety, and excellent customer service, BURNCO is building a team that represents these core values. We invite experienced payroll professionals who are detail-focused and collaborative to join our Calgary Corporate Office team as a Payroll Administrator. This position is full-time with hybrid work flexibility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure payroll operations adhere to internal policies and applicable government laws across Canada and the U.S.
  • Process weekly and bi-weekly payroll accurately for employees in both countries.
  • Prepare payments for company obligations including government remittances, union dues, and related financial commitments on schedule.
  • Reconcile payroll sub-ledger accounts with the general ledger and compile month-end payroll accruals and journal entries as necessary.
  • Stay updated on policy changes affecting payroll and benefits compliance.
  • Handle preparation and coordination of government filings such as employee deductions, garnishments, Records of Employment, T4s, T4As, W-2s, pension reporting, and Workers' Compensation Board requirements.
  • Provide timely responses to payroll-related inquiries both internally and from external stakeholders.
  • Create scheduled payroll reports for management review.
  • Manage year-end payroll reporting and reconciliation for Canadian and U.S. payrolls.
  • Perform additional responsibilities assigned by the Payroll Manager.

Candidate Profile and Requirements

  • Minimum three years of payroll processing experience in Canada and/or the U.S.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment.
  • Payroll certification in Canada or the U.S. preferred; equivalent education and experience combinations may be acceptable.
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian payroll legislation such as CPP, EI, and taxation.
  • Comprehensive understanding of federal, provincial, and state payroll regulations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience with UKG payroll system is advantageous.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, and analytical skills, with attention to detail.

Work Details and Additional Information

  • The role is based in Calgary with hybrid arrangements, combining office and remote work.
  • Standard working hours are Monday through Friday, 40 hours weekly, with occasional overtime.
