Pathology Assistant

Role Overview

The Pathology Assistant role at Shared Health - Westman Laboratory in Brandon involves receiving, describing, and dissecting surgical tissue specimens, followed by the preparation of these specimens for histological processing to aid microscopic diagnosis. The position reports to the Charge Technologist and Medical Site Manager (Pathologist) and focuses on maintaining a safe, high-quality environment aligning with provincial guidelines, accreditation standards, and the organization's policies and values.

Responsibilities

• Handle and describe surgical tissue samples accurately.
• Prepare tissue specimens for processing to facilitate microscopic examination.
• Ensure safety protocols and quality assurance measures are strictly followed.
• Adhere to organizational mission and values, along with applicable legislation and policies.

Qualifications and Skills

• Minimum of two years relevant experience in pathology or related tasks.
• Preferred graduation from an accredited Pathology Assistant program or equivalent qualification.
• Bachelor of Science degree with courses in Human Anatomy and Physiology, or equivalent experience including Registered Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) specialization in Histology.
• Preferred membership with the Canadian Association of Pathologists or equivalent body.
• Strong knowledge of medical terminology, Histology procedures, pathology basics, and Routine Practices.
• Ability to follow detailed oral and written instructions and maintain confidentiality.
• Effective communication skills in English; bilingual proficiency in French and English may be required.
• Capability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
• Strong analytical skills and ability to perform under pressure.

Work Details

• Work schedule includes days, evenings, and weekends with 7.75 hours per day totaling 2015 hours annually.
• The position commences around August 14, 2026.
• Work is conducted in-person at the Shared Health - Westman Laboratory, Brandon site.

Salary

Salary progression ranges from $47,402 to $56,610 annually across multiple increments.
