About the Company
XSub Robotics develops advanced autonomous underwater vehicles and maritime robotic systems for defence and security applications. The team focuses on long-range underwater platforms, edge-compute payloads, and sophisticated sensing and autonomy software designed to operate in GPS-denied, low-communication, high-risk environments. Work is fast-paced, highly hands-on, and centered on taking products from concept to sea trials quickly.
Role Overview
The Manufacturing Manager will own the manufacturing and assembly flow for underwater vehicle components and subsystems. This role requires close coordination with fabrication vendors, design, testing, procurement, and operations teams to improve quality, speed, and cost efficiency across the build process.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up, run, and continuously refine the end-to-end manufacturing and assembly workflow for underwater vehicle parts and subsystems.
- Spot process bottlenecks, shorten cycle times, and introduce repeatable methods that improve throughput and consistency.
- Supervise manufacturing operations and share practical feedback with fabrication vendors to ensure work is completed on time.
- Verify that parts meet the required mechanical standards and dimensional accuracy.
- Troubleshoot production and design issues using engineering tools such as GD&T, tolerance stack-up analysis, FMEA, and root cause analysis.
- Choose suitable raw materials, consumables, and fasteners based on performance, durability, and cost considerations.
- Work with vendors on sourcing and procurement, negotiate effectively, and protect material quality and timely delivery.
- Prepare and maintain technical records including test reports, build logs, inspection reports, and process sheets.
- Coordinate with design, testing, procurement, and operations teams to support development goals.
- Plan manufacturing budgets, monitor production-related costs, and contribute to cost reduction efforts.
- Build and maintain a dependable backup vendor base for fabrication, machining, and procurement needs.
- Inspect incoming materials, fabricated parts, and outsourced assemblies for quality compliance.
- Lead mechanical integration of subassemblies, seals, housings, pressure vessels, frames, and drive components.
- Confirm compatibility across systems and validate assembly fit, tolerances, and watertightness.
- Use machines, hand tools, power tools, and measuring instruments correctly and safely.
- Enforce workshop safety practices and help maintain a clean, compliant work environment.
- Mentor junior QA engineers and technicians and train team members across the organization.
Requirements
- Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, B.Tech/B.E. in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or Manufacturing Engineering.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing operations, production management, and production engineering.
- Experience handling vendors, materials, and shop-floor execution.
- Ability to work through design and manufacturing issues using engineering analysis and problem-solving methods.
- Comfort with quality checks, inspection practices, and assembly validation.
- Capability to read requirements, manage multiple workstreams, and coordinate across teams.
- Hands-on familiarity with workshop tools, power tools, and measurement equipment.
- Willingness to mentor others and contribute to a disciplined, safety-focused environment.
