Machine Learning Engineer Intern (TikTok BRIC Singapore) - 2026 Start (BS/MS)

Overview

The Business Risk Integrated Control (BRIC) team at TikTok is dedicated to protecting all users—including content consumers, creators, and advertisers—by safeguarding platform integrity and community experience authenticity. The team collaborates across departments to enhance TikTok's platforms, services, tools, and algorithms, focusing on improving privacy and security standards.

The team addresses multiple areas including fake accounts, fraudulent traffic, spam, data scraping, cyberbullying, live room risks, incentive fraud, and monetization abuse.

Internship Opportunity

This internship provides the chance to contribute directly to major security initiatives at TikTok, helping to develop scalable, resilient, and user-friendly machine learning solutions that maintain privacy. Interns will face novel and challenging product and technical issues in a fast-paced, adversarial environment, working alongside experts globally.

Internships are designed to offer practical industry experience and exposure, available in two sessions: January to June or May to August (summer).

Key Responsibilities

• Develop machine learning models to detect and counteract risks such as abusive accounts, fake engagements, spammy redirects, scraping, and fraud on TikTok and ByteDance products.
• Enhance model infrastructure, labeling, feature extraction, and algorithms to improve robustness, automation, and scalability while reducing operational burden associated with adversaries and product growth.
• Advance risk-related machine learning practices focusing on privacy compliance, model interpretability, and risk evaluation.

Candidate Requirements

• Currently pursuing an undergraduate or postgraduate degree in Software Development, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Strong engineering skills with proficiency in at least two of the following: Linux, Hadoop, Hive, Spark, Storm.
• Solid background in machine learning with knowledge or publications in deep learning, transfer/multi-task learning, reinforcement learning, time series, or unsupervised graph learning techniques.
• Analytical mindset with the ability to reason critically and communicate data-driven results effectively, working independently.

Preferred Qualifications

• Research experience in applied machine learning, ML infrastructure, large-scale recommendation systems, or market-facing ML products.
• Strong publication record in leading conferences or journals such as NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, CVPR, TPAMI, or JMLR.
• Demonstrated impact through high-quality research.
