Role Overview
The Junior Quantity Surveyor will assist the commercial and project teams with cost management, measurement, variation tracking, and project documentation throughout the full project cycle. This position is suited to someone with 5 to 7 years of contracting-sector experience and strong technical, numerical, and analytical capabilities, especially in site measurements, BOQs, and cost control.
Measurement and BOQ Support
- Carry out detailed quantity take-offs using drawings, specifications, and information collected from site.
- Help prepare Bills of Quantities for tendering, procurement, and execution stages.
- Check subcontractor and supplier quantities against approved drawings and actual site progress.
- Keep quantity logs and measurement sheets updated on a regular basis.
Cost Control and Financial Reporting
- Assist with estimates, budgets, and cost planning activities.
- Track project expenditure and highlight any variance from approved budgets.
- Support the preparation of monthly cost reports, cash flow forecasts, and financial summaries.
- Monitor material usage and match it with site-based records.
Variations, Claims, and Valuations
- Spot changes in scope and support the preparation of variation orders with complete documentation.
- Help compile interim payment applications and valuation submissions.
- Work with site teams to collect supporting evidence for claims and cost changes.
- Assist in preparing Extension of Time documentation when required.
Procurement Assistance
- Support the preparation of RFQs and comparison of supplier and subcontractor quotations.
- Help evaluate commercial offers and assist with price and term negotiations.
- Maintain current records of procurement schedules and material pricing data.
Site Coordination and Record-Keeping
- Visit project sites regularly to confirm progress, quantities, and material usage.
- Coordinate with engineers, planners, and supervisors to ensure reporting accuracy.
- Organize commercial records, drawings, correspondence, and related documentation.
- Prepare weekly and monthly reports covering quantities, progress, and commercial matters.
Compliance and Quality Checks
- Make sure commercial work follows company procedures, project specifications, and contract terms.
- Assist with internal audits and quality reviews of commercial documentation.
- Support senior quantity surveyors and commercial managers in identifying and reducing project risks.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related discipline.
- 5 to 7 years of experience as a Quantity Surveyor in a contracting or construction environment.
- Strong organizational ability and accurate record-keeping habits.
- Working knowledge of quantity take-off tools and MS Office.
- Good communication skills.
- Strong analytical and numerical aptitude.
- Ability to perform effectively under pressure and meet deadlines.
