Junior DevOps Engineer

Role Overview

This position is for a Junior DevOps Engineer based in Belfast, UK, working in a hybrid setup with 3 days per week in the office.

Experience and Technical Focus

• Hands-on DevOps experience of 2 to 3 years is required.
• The role calls for a principal-level engineer who can build and operate distributed, cloud-native systems directly.
• A strong working background in Go- or Java-based services, along with modernizing those services, is important.
• You should understand system failure scenarios, how to scale reliably, and how to maintain data durability.
• Experience with Kafka or comparable streaming/distributed platforms is expected.
• Practical knowledge of Helm, Operators, and infrastructure as code tools is needed, with Terraform preferred.
• Deep Kubernetes expertise is essential, particularly for stateful workloads.
• Solid AWS experience is required, including EKS, EBS, IAM, and VPC.

Nice to Have

• It is beneficial to have worked on moving older or non-cloud-native Java applications into Kubernetes.
• Experience designing systems for multiple regions or global distribution would be an advantage.
• Familiarity with service mesh technologies and advanced networking approaches is also useful.

This is a contract role. The role is described as junior in title, but the experience expectation indicates a more advanced hands-on engineering background.
