Overview

Pulse Trading Cards, a part of Monmouth Trading Cards, is seeking a Junior Designer / Production Artist to join their team. This role involves detailed print production work focused on premium trading card products and collector experiences. The Junior Designer will prepare and manage production files for various trading card products and related printed collateral, collaborating closely with the Creative Director and design team to ensure high-quality, production-ready artwork.

Key Responsibilities

Create and prepare production files for numerous trading card products including base cards, inserts, autograph cards, parallels, checklists, packaging, retail displays, sell sheets, and supporting collateral.
Utilize and adhere to established card templates and product systems to generate precise layouts across athletes, teams, partners, variants, SKUs, and release formats.
Ensure print-ready files meet production specifications for bleeds, trims, safe zones, dielines, spot colors, foils, finishes, coatings, overprint settings, export standards, and vendor requirements.
Manage high-volume production tasks such as copy swapping, image placement, layout modifications, versioning, resizing, checklist updates, and file exports.
Edit and retouch photography for use on cards and packaging, including color correction, cleanup, cutouts, masking, compositing basics, and preparing images to specification.
Maintain consistency across large card sets by ensuring typography, spacing, alignment, image treatment, logos, legal text, numbering, and production details are accurate and uniform.
Organize project files, including working files, links, fonts, specs, references, proofs, and final exports to keep projects methodical, searchable, and ready for production.
Review and verify quality and accuracy of files before handoff to prevent print and production issues.
Assist in proofing cycles, specification checks, revision updates, and coordinate production handoff with print vendors.
Occasionally develop supporting marketing or digital assets from templates, such as web graphics, email visuals, social media content, or launch materials linked to product releases.

Candidate Requirements

2 to 3+ years of design and production experience with a demonstrated portfolio showcasing strong print, layout, production, or packaging work.
Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Illustrator and Photoshop.
In-depth knowledge of print production fundamentals including CMYK workflows, resolution, bleeds, trims, safe zones, dielines, spot colors, proofing, prepress, and vendor handoffs.
Hands-on experience preparing files for specialty print finishes such as foils, spot UV, embossing, debossing, die cuts, specialty stocks, laminates, and coatings.
Exceptional attention to detail with a strong focus on alignment, spacing, typography, image quality, file organization, and production accuracy.
Expertise in file management with clean layers, consistent naming conventions, organized links, packaged files, version control, and accurate export processes.
Comfortable working within established templates, design systems, and production guidelines to maintain quality and efficiency.
Basic photo editing skills including retouching, masking, cutouts, cleanup, compositing, and image preparation for print.
Aptitude for managing repetitive, detail-intensive tasks without compromising on accuracy or consistency.
Collaborative attitude with the ability to follow direction, ask insightful questions, and support smooth project progress.

Desirable Qualifications

Experience related to trading cards, collectibles, sports or entertainment products, packaging, consumer goods, or retail print production.
Understanding and interest in advanced AI workflow tools to enhance consistency and efficiency in production.
Knowledge of sports and trading card culture including collector behaviors, inserts, parallels, autographs, and packaging nuances.
Additional skills in motion graphics, video, or 3D software such as After Effects, Premiere, Blender, or Cinema 4D.

Role Type: Full-time
Location: Hybrid at New Jersey office or remote for suitable candidates
Reports to: Creative Director
Salary Range: $50,000 to $65,000 annually
