Role Overview

We invite applications for a Junior CAD Technician role, aimed at individuals beginning their CAD career journey. The position centers on assisting the creation and implementation of modular steel stage frameworks and event structures. It demands collaboration with fabrication, inventory, and logistics teams to develop precise manufacturing drawings and provide support for active assignments. Additionally, the role offers involvement in innovating new system designs and work processes. Primarily office-based, occasional site visits are required. The nature of the job is dynamic and hands-on, contributing directly to structures used in leading productions. Training and opportunities for career growth will be provided to the right candidate.

Main Responsibilities

Revise and update drawing collections for yearly festival setups
Generate 2D and 3D technical drawings for clients covering stages and structural assemblies
Create component parts, sub-assemblies, and full assembly models using Inventor software
Export design files suitable for laser/plasma cutting, beam drilling, and plate bending
Generate bills of materials and coordinate with stock management to ensure precision
Thoroughly verify drawings for correctness and completion
Utilize proprietary standardized modular truss systems in design tasks
Work jointly with engineers, fabricators, and installation teams to resolve design challenges
Provide design support for live projects to facilitate site teams
Conduct site visits to collect measurements, elevation data, and reference information

Prerequisites

Essential:

Proficiency with Inventor CAD software
Possession of a full UK driving license
Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy
Capability to troubleshoot rapidly in a fast-moving setting
Effective communication and collaborative skills
Strong understanding of engineering principles
Legal entitlement to work in the UK
Ability to commute daily to the Wells, Somerset office location

Desirable:

At least one year of relevant experience or appropriate vocational qualifications
Familiarity with AutoCAD software
Experience with ERP systems, particularly SysPro
Knowledge of steelwork or fabrication drawing techniques
Understanding of structural or construction industry environments
Experience handling construction materials such as aluminium, plywood, and PVC
