About the Role

Nazareth House Mallow is a nursing home with 120 ensuite bedrooms. The home provides nursing assessment, continuing nursing care, respite care, and palliative care. Its facilities also include an old chapel, coffee dock, hairdresser, shop, and additional amenities.

The residence is close to Dromahane village and about 5 km from Mallow town. It sits on 15 acres in the Golden Vale, known for its rolling hills and grass-rich landscape.

Role Summary

Nazareth House Mallow is seeking a caring and reliable Housekeeper to help maintain a pleasant daily living environment for residents. The role suits someone who is positive, hardworking, and comfortable working in a supportive team environment alongside experienced healthcare professionals in a diverse and multicultural setting.

Reporting Line

This position reports to the Director of Nursing.

Purpose of the Job

The main aim of the post is to keep the home clean, orderly, and hygienic at all times while remembering that this is the residents’ home. Respect for privacy, dignity, and independence must be maintained throughout every task, and all duties should be completed in a courteous, friendly, and efficient manner.

Main Duties

The housekeeping duties cover communal areas, nursing areas, bathrooms, resident rooms, and the designated smoking area.

• In sitting rooms, lounges, corridors, and entrance areas: move chairs away from walls and dust them, clean wipeable surfaces such as tables, footrests, seats, and window sills, dust television screens and media equipment, empty bins, refresh floral arrangements, carry out high dusting weekly, vacuum floors, and disinfect telephones and the clock-in machine.
• At the nurse’s station: clean the wash basin, dust desks, cupboards, computer screens, and window sills, empty domestic waste, and vacuum the floor.
• In bathrooms, toilets, and sluices: clean and disinfect the bath hoist chair and hoist, wash baths or showers, basins, taps, toilets, lids, handles, and doors, clean sluice areas and slabs, wash grab rails and related fixtures, clean mirrors, empty bins, replace bin liners, top up toilet-roll holders, towel dispensers, and soap dispensers, clean floors, perform high-level damp dusting weekly, and launder shower curtains every three months or sooner if needed.
• In residents’ bedrooms: raise electric profiling beds daily, carry out weekly high dusting, damp dust lockers, chairs, and window sills every day, sweep or vacuum daily, refresh flowers, remove waste from all bins, and wash and mop floor surfaces every day using only hot or lukewarm water.
• In the residents’ smoking area: empty ashtrays as needed, especially in the morning and evening, damp dust tables and ashtrays, and keep the surrounding area clean.
• Complete weekly cleaning rotas in each unit and sign them once done.
