Position Overview
We seek a Highways Lighting Operative based in Leeds LS11 to support installation, maintenance, and repair of highway lighting systems including streetlights, traffic signs, and other street furniture.
Primary Duties
- Operate HIAB HGV vehicles to transport, lift, and position lighting columns, bollards, and signs
- Install street lighting columns and related non-electrical street furniture
- Perform excavation, groundwork, and foundation preparation for installations
- Remove and replace damaged or obsolete columns, signs, and bollards
- Use hand tools and machinery to perform installations according to specifications
- Collaborate with team members to coordinate site work and minimize traffic and pedestrian disruption
- Adhere strictly to health and safety guidelines and site protocols
- Maintain precise job records using handheld devices
- Conduct daily vehicle and equipment safety inspections
Qualifications and Experience
- Previous experience in civils, fibre, construction, highways, or similar works
- Strong practical abilities including excavation skills
- Solid understanding of site safety and safe working procedures
- Familiar with CAT & Genny usage
- Physically fit to work outdoors in various weather conditions
- Capable of working efficiently without compromising safety or quality
- Basic competency in IT for logging work via handheld devices
- Effective communication skills and a cooperative team approach
Preferred but Not Mandatory Qualifications
- Certifications such as IPAF, PASMA, or HERS
- HIAB crane operating experience and ALLMI certification
- A valid Class 2 (Category C) HGV license
- G39 Electrical Safety Training
- Experience with public lighting, highways maintenance, or infrastructure projects
- Street works (NRSWA) qualification
- Knowledge of HSG47 guidelines on safe digging

Benefits and Salary
The salary ranges from £25,877 for candidates without an HGV license to £27,011 for those holding the license, depending on skills and experience. There is a Time Incentive Management (TIM) Bonus Scheme along with various benefits supporting family, finances, and wellbeing. Working hours are Monday to Thursday, 7am-3pm, and Friday 7am-2:30pm, with optional overtime available.
