Graduate Admissions Advisor

Position overview

SUNY Plattsburgh is seeking a Graduate Admissions Advisor to join a fast-moving graduate admissions team in Plattsburgh, NY. This role acts as a key ambassador for the university’s graduate programs and admissions process, with a strong focus on outreach, advising, recruitment, and student engagement.

Reporting to the Director of Graduate Admissions, the advisor works with prospective and current graduate students to support them throughout the admissions journey and help advance enrollment goals. The position also contributes to student success efforts across the Enrollment and Student Success division, which supports students from admission through graduation.

Core responsibilities

The advisor will counsel prospective students on graduate admissions criteria, academic offerings, financial aid options, application steps, and available graduate support services using multiple communication channels.

The role includes developing and carrying out targeted recruitment approaches that improve application completion and enrollment, while representing the university at recruitment events, graduate fairs, employer outreach activities, and community programs.

Additional work involves presenting to groups in both virtual and in-person settings, organizing and evaluating recruitment and yield events, supporting graduate student engagement efforts, and contributing to social media and digital outreach initiatives.

The position also requires maintaining orientation resources and online content, helping strengthen programs that improve the graduate student experience, keeping recruitment records accurate, preparing reports and data analyses for enrollment planning, and supporting process improvements and university committees tied to student enrollment, retention, and success.
