Job Summary

The janitor role involves maintaining cleanliness and orderliness in educational facilities. Responsibilities include heavy-duty cleaning tasks such as floor care, carpet shampooing, wall and glass washing, and rubbish removal to ensure a safe environment for students, staff, and visitors.

Key Responsibilities

• Collect and dispose of trash adhering to infection control and approved procedures.
• Dust and damp mop floors according to established guidelines.
• Relocate equipment and furniture as needed for cleaning, returning items to their proper place.
• Clean assigned spaces using designated materials and equipment, sanitizing all surfaces by following an eight-step cleaning procedure.
• Wash walls, windows, furniture, baseboards, and other areas to maintain cleanliness and safety.
• Identify areas that require cleaning and proactively address them.
• Complete all tasks as assigned by the supervisor in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
• Strip, scrub, buff, and refinish flooring; shampoo carpets as needed.
• Demonstrate professionalism and teamwork when interacting with customers, colleagues, and others.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Previous experience in janitorial or custodial work is preferred.

Work Schedule and Location

This is a full-time position offering a Monday through Friday schedule from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm at Murray State University, 101 MSU Drive, Hopkinsville, KY 42240. Flexible part-time openings are also available within the school district.
