Job description
Position Overview
We seek a skilled Floating Dock Operator responsible for executing vessel docking and undocking operations safely and according to schedule under the guidance of the Dock Master. This role includes pre-operation inspections, managing ballast tanks, and coordinating with maintenance and supervisory teams to ensure efficient and secure floating dock management.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out floating dock operations as instructed by the Dock Master to guarantee safe and timely docking and undocking of vessels.
- Assess vessel weights, including single and co-docking scenarios, and accurately enter Longitudinal Center of Gravity (LCG) data into the ADAC system prior to lift initiation.
- Perform thorough inspections at least 72 hours before lifting or lowering procedures involving the floating dock.
- Monitor ballast tanks continuously throughout day and night shifts, maintaining detailed records of these observations.
- Manage drafts safely during ballasting and de-ballasting activities while vessels are docked.
- Collaborate with the maintenance team to operate ballast pumps and assist in balancing tanks as needed during maintenance tasks.
- Immediately report any abnormal conditions or alarms to the Dock Master and maintenance personnel.
- Operate the trolley device for precise centering of vessels within the floating dock concurrent with lifting operations.
- Maintain workspace cleanliness to company standards and ensure the proper handling of tools and equipment to minimize damage and avoid equipment failure.
- Coordinate with site supervisors to ensure gutter holes are appropriately managed—open during dock descent and securely closed once lifting is complete.
- Adhere strictly to all safety and quality standards to maintain a safe working environment for all staff.
- Emphasize personal and team wellbeing by following protocols that support a healthy workplace.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors while maintaining focus on operational excellence and safety.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Completion of a Trade Apprenticeship or Secondary School education.
- A minimum of three years’ experience working as a dock operator.
- Previous floating dock operations training is advantageous.
- Practical understanding and familiarity with shipyard environments or similar industrial facilities.
- Proficiency in English to facilitate communication and safety compliance.
Work Environment and Expectations
This full-time, onsite position is based in Ras Laffan, Al Khor, and Al Thakhira, Qatar. Candidates should expect to work closely with various teams in a physically demanding and safety-sensitive environment, emphasizing operational precision and teamwork.
