About the Role
Wellstar Health System is seeking an Environmental Services Technician in Augusta, GA for an evening shift position. This role is important to maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming healthcare environment while supporting patients, families, staff, and visitors with professionalism and compassion.
The position involves thorough cleaning of patient rooms, restrooms, isolation areas, and specialty clinical spaces, along with the correct handling of waste streams and regulated materials. The team member will also use ultraviolet light equipment when required and must follow strict infection-control and safety practices at all times.
Work Schedule
This is an evening shift role in the United States of America. The title also notes availability for evenings and nights, with rotating weekends and holidays.
Key Duties
- Carry out complete cleaning of restrooms and patient rooms, including regular, terminal, and isolation cleaning procedures based on location and room type.
- Follow infection-prevention standards and choose the correct cleaning agents for each task.
- Perform routine surface and floor cleaning, including walls, doors, windows, furniture, equipment, dust mopping, wet mopping, edges, corners, base coves, and kick plates.
- Remove trash and linen according to the correct disposal rules for solid waste, biohazard waste, chemotherapy waste, pharmaceutical waste, and other regulated materials.
- Use personal protective equipment properly and follow correct donning and doffing procedures.
- Apply safe lifting practices to reduce the risk of injury.
- Follow all hospital and department policies, procedures, and safety rules.
- Use ultraviolet light equipment safely and according to protocol.
- Place the correct liners in waste containers and secure them properly when closing out.
- Maintain a positive and courteous manner when interacting with staff, patients, families, guests, and coworkers.
- Support world-class service standards through strong interpersonal skills and professional behavior.
- Assist with special projects and performance improvement work as assigned.
- Document completed daily assignments and adapt to staffing shortages by covering other assigned areas when needed.
- Use the Epic system to help maintain efficient bed and patient flow, including logging in and out as required.
- Complete other duties assigned by leadership and comply with all Wellstar policies, work standards, and code of conduct.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED is preferred.
- Some prior experience is preferred.
- Ability to speak fluent English.
- Ability to read, write, and understand simple instructions in English.
- Completion of the departmental training program within the first 30 days of employment.
- All required certifications must be in place at the time of hire unless stated otherwise.
