Overview
Embark on a rewarding FIFO career in mining as a Driller's Offsider through our 2026 intake. This entry-level position offers the chance to work with leading mining companies across Queensland, supporting your growth toward becoming a Driller, Supervisor, or Operations Manager. Opportunities are available for both casual and traineeship roles, emphasizing safety, skill development, and strong team support.
Role Details
As a Driller's Offsider, you'll engage in physically demanding tasks both on surface and underground sites. Working alongside experienced drillers, you will gain valuable on-the-job skills and have opportunities to earn competitive pay with potential bonuses. The role includes full-time positions with manageable FIFO shifts based out of Brisbane or Townsville and comfortable onsite accommodations such as caravans, staff housing, and exploration camps. Daily meals are provided, and uniforms, PPE, and training are supplied.
Key Responsibilities
- Follow directions from the Driller and assist as required.
- Perform daily pre-start inspections of equipment.
- Complete necessary safety documentation and adhere to procedures.
- Support rig and equipment maintenance, including cleaning tasks.
- Load and unload heavy vehicles with drilling materials.
- Assist in setup, dismantling, and relocation of rigs and associated tools.
- Manually handle drill rods, sample bags, and core trays safely.
- Carry out other duties assigned to support drilling operations.
Candidate Profile
Ideal candidates will possess a background in physical labor-intensive jobs such as concreting, farming, plumbing, bricklaying, general laboring, or previous FIFO mining roles. Holding certifications such as WAH, 4WD, First Aid, Standard 11 (S11), and a current Coal Board Medical is advantageous.
Mandatory Requirements
- Hold a valid HR-B Unrestricted driver's licence without restrictions.
- Possess a White Card for construction safety.
- Previous experience as a Driller's Offsider.
- Currently live in Queensland.
- Pass a pre-employment medical assessment.
- Provide a clean police clearance dated within the last three months.
- Australian Citizenship or Permanent Residency status.
- Hold a current and valid S11 certification.
- Demonstrate willingness and dedication to intensive training.
Additional Information
This role demands exceptional physical and mental endurance due to extensive manual labor, working in confined spaces, and coping with environmental conditions such as dust. Joining the traineeship program provides required onsite certifications, including Certificate II, easing your transition into the resource sector.
