Data Scientist – Frontier AI (Remote)

About the Role

We are looking for a dedicated Data Scientist to join our Frontier AI team in a remote full-time position based in Canada. The role centers on leading research and evaluation projects that involve formulating problems, designing data, ensuring quality, and validating signals to optimize AI system performance.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage all aspects of research and evaluation initiatives from conceptualization through to implementation, including the design and calibration of data quality and validation mechanisms.
• Create machine learning-focused data infrastructures that define tasks, annotation methods, evaluation rubrics, incentive structures, and pipelines to enhance model outcomes.
• Investigate model and system malfunctions to find root causes, rare edge scenarios, and areas for enhancement.
• Convert unclear, real-world system behaviors into organized evaluation frameworks and novel data classifications.
• Quickly refine evaluations, datasets, and feedback processes to uplift system efficiency.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to convey research advancements clearly and credibly with evidence-based narratives.

Candidate Requirements

• Exhibit strong discernment about the reliability of research signals and recognize when findings are ready for external communication.
• Prior experience in designing datasets tailored for machine learning, establishing evaluation frameworks, and overseeing quality control procedures.
• Ability to interpret complex, ambiguous system behaviors into structured research questions and evaluation strategies.
• Comfortable working in uncertain environments, displaying initiative, accountability, and prompt decision-making.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, particularly in articulating trade-offs and limitations to diverse stakeholders.

Compensation and Additional Information

Annual Salary Range: $600,000 to $2,000,000

This position is fully remote and open to candidates based in Canada.
