About Vanier Children’s Mental Wellness
Vanier Children’s Mental Wellness is a longstanding leader in children’s mental health across Southwestern Ontario, serving families for over 60 years. As the Lead Agency for Child and Youth Mental Health System planning in the region, Vanier provides innovative, culturally sensitive mental health services to children, youth, and families. Funded by the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services, the organization focuses on accessibility, system leadership, and community advocacy.
Role Overview
The Data Analyst supports evidence-based decision-making by managing data evaluation processes. Reporting to the Lead Agency Manager, this role assists the Quality and Strategy team in developing, maintaining, and integrating databases, including those from multiple agencies within the London-Middlesex and Oxford-Elgin areas. The analyst provides user support, generates and interprets data reports, trains stakeholders, and aids in creating quality improvement tools and surveys. They are primarily responsible for data visualization and statistical analyses.
Key Responsibilities
- Support performance measurement efforts by assisting in planning and designing integrated databases encompassing diverse Vanier operations, such as client, HR, and financial data.
- Help design, update, and manage databases containing service data from multiple agencies in London-Middlesex and Oxford-Elgin.
- Develop database metadata components (triggers, stored procedures, functions, data views) using SQL and create parameterized reports for users via Visual Studio.
- Collaborate with Vanier Digital service team to maintain databases using SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS).
- Provide support to staff and managers in utilizing specialized tools like case management software, Amazon Quicksight, and other BI platforms.
- Handle complex datasets by implementing collection, monitoring, and auditing systems to ensure data integrity and support analysis and reporting.
- Consult internally and externally on data reporting requirements by engaging with stakeholders and communities of practice.
- Conduct meaningful data extraction, perform statistical analyses, and interpret indicators related to quality improvement and performance measurement.
- Provide data support for external research initiatives and assist other agencies in data management for mandatory statistics and reports.
- Support setting targets for performance measurement across programs, teams, agencies, and service areas.
- Prepare performance indicator reports for diverse audiences including staff, executives, the Board, and funding bodies.
- Participate in agency committee meetings when relevant and maintain confidentiality of sensitive client and agency information.
- Continuously update technical expertise through workshops, publications, networking, and professional societies.
- Adhere to the Occupational Health and Safety Act and perform other assigned duties.
Qualifications and Experience
- Post-secondary education in Data Analytics, Computer Science, Statistics, Business Analytics, or a related field is required; a master's degree is preferred.
- Proficiency in SQL programming and database administration.
- Preferably 1-2 years of experience in data analysis; at least one year is needed to fully understand reporting cycles.
- Knowledge or familiarity with children’s mental health sector is advantageous.
- Strong competency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) and statistical analysis software.
- Advanced skills in Excel, SQL coding, data visualization, and statistical analysis.
- Understanding of performance measurement frameworks, program evaluation, and research methodologies.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license is mandatory.
- High ethical and professional standards to prevent errors that could misinform policy or operational decisions.
- Ability to work independently under supervision of Lead Agency Supervisor, Quality Manager, and Director of Quality, Data Strategy and Analytics, with deliverables reviewed and approved accordingly.
Work Conditions and Benefits
- Full-time position, Monday to Friday, 35 hours per week.
