About the Role
This permanent, full-time position is based in Cromwell, Otago. It offers an excellent opportunity for candidates residing within the surrounding regions who are willing to commute. As a Curriculum Advisor within the Ministry of Education’s Otago/Southland team, you will support schools, kura, and early learning services in delivering quality education aligned with New Zealand's Curriculum, with a focus on primary education environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide guidance and support to school leadership, teachers, and kaiako for the implementation of the new NZ curriculum and assessment changes, adopting a whole-school perspective.
- Assist educational settings in all aspects of curriculum and assessment transformation, including the incorporation of aromatawai practices.
- Deliver tailored, locally aligned professional learning to develop pedagogical content knowledge.
- Foster collaborative networks within the educational community and facilitate sharing of best practices.
About You
- Extensive experience and solid understanding of curriculum delivery, specifically of the New Zealand Curriculum with recent school-based involvement; experience in primary education is highly advantageous.
- In-depth knowledge of the science of learning and effective pedagogical methods necessary to implement a knowledge-rich curriculum enhancing learner outcomes.
- Demonstrable leadership in whole-school curriculum planning and the ability to support sustained educational change.
- Strong pedagogical expertise coupled with the capacity to enhance others' instructional knowledge; applicants should specify their pedagogical specialization.
- Proven success in establishing and nurturing partnerships to facilitate educational change, with strong interpersonal, facilitation, and diplomatic skills.
- Familiarity with te ao Māori values and practices, including understanding of Te Reo, tikanga, and mātauranga Māori.
- Possession of a full, current New Zealand driver’s license required due to travel obligations.
- Commitment to adhere to the Public Service Standards of Integrity and Conduct.

Its priorities include managing guidance and practice to ensure national consistency and regional responsiveness, delivering integrated support to educational settings, and monitoring to foster improvements in education service efficiency and equity.
Additional Information
Annual salary ranges from $100,296 to $121,490 plus KiwiSaver contributions, with appointment dependent on experience and skills. Applications close at midnight on Friday 21 August 2026.
