Role overview
Fedora Herald and Partners is hiring a Cost Estimator to support commercial pricing, tendering, procurement coordination, and project handover activities in Lagos. The role focuses on building accurate estimates, assessing supplier quotations, managing cost information, and helping the team reduce project risk while maintaining quality and compliance.
Supplier and subcontractor coordination
- Collect competitive quotes from pre-approved suppliers and subcontractors.
- Build enquiry packs and define scopes clearly for pricing exercises.
- Review quotations to confirm they are complete and meet the stated requirements.
- Handle pricing discussions and negotiate commercial terms where needed.
- Develop durable working relationships with suppliers over time.
- Keep supplier records current and well organised.
Tender preparation and submission
- Compile full commercial tender packages.
- Produce bills of quantities, pricing schedules, cost summaries, tender analysis sheets, commercial qualifications, exclusions, and assumptions.
- Make sure all submissions align with client instructions and are delivered before deadlines.
Commercial risk control
- Spot commercial and contractual risks within tender documentation.
- Assess issues such as incomplete scope, design uncertainty, long-lead procurement items, inflation exposure, currency fluctuations, and programme limitations.
- Suggest practical mitigation measures to reduce exposure.
Value engineering
- Identify cost-saving opportunities without reducing quality or performance.
- Recommend alternative materials and construction methods where appropriate.
- Collaborate with the design team to improve overall project value.
Project handover support
- After a project is awarded, prepare the commercial handover documentation.
- Brief the delivery team on estimate assumptions, supplier pricing, procurement approach, cost risks, value engineering proposals, and programme assumptions.
- Support the commercial team during project start-up.
Cost database and improvement
- Maintain reference data covering material prices, labour rates, supplier quotations, historical project costs, and productivity norms.
- Refresh rate information regularly to reflect market movement.
- Track market pricing trends and stay informed about new fit-out materials and technologies.
- Improve estimating templates and standard rate build-ups over time.
- Take part in post-project cost reviews to strengthen future estimates.
