Job Overview
The Coordinator Permit to Work serves as the issuing authority and key controller for the Permit to Work (PTW) system at International Maritime Industries, ensuring safe handling of high-risk and non-routine tasks across various operational and non-operational zones. This role demands overseeing the PTW Control Room, managing permit issuance, monitoring, verification of risk control effectiveness, and ensuring compliance with company and regulatory safety procedures.
Primary Responsibilities
- Manage PTW Control Room operations, act as Issuing Authority or Coordinator, and maintain continuous awareness of area status, operational interfaces, isolations, energization, and constraints.
- Authorize and issue PTWs aligned with IMI procedures, verifying scope clarity, assigned roles, and valid permit conditions and durations.
- Confirm that all essential supporting documents and risk control measures (such as TRA/JSA, method statements, isolations/LOTO, gas test results, certificates, PPE, and emergency provisions) are in place before issuing or activating permits.
- Coordinate site verifications before permit activation and regularly for high-risk jobs to ensure readiness, boundary compliance, and the enforcement of safety controls.
- Maintain active communication with permit applicants, performing authorities, and operational stakeholders to manage permit interfaces, handovers, and changes accurately.
- Identify and resolve SIMOPS conflicts and overlapping hazardous activities through proper sequencing, additional safeguard implementation, or declining permits when necessary.
- Suspend, revoke, or withdraw permits promptly when conditions deteriorate or an unsafe situation arises; ensure stop-work actions and revalidation prior to permit re-issuance.
- Close permits following procedure by verifying job completion, proper housekeeping, removal of temporary controls, and restoration of original conditions including isolation hand-back.
- Maintain comprehensive and accurate PTW records, registers, certificates, and ensure document control standards and authorized personnel participation are upheld.
- Contribute to PTW quality assurance via daily meetings, audits, compliance monitoring, corrective actions, and coaching stakeholders on safety and permit procedures.
