About the Role
Westpac New Zealand invites applications for the Consumer Banking and Wealth (CBW) Chief Operating Office (COO) Graduate Programme starting February 2027. This permanent, tailored programme is designed to develop future leaders by providing hands-on experience within the COO team, which is central to the smooth operation of Westpac’s Consumer Bank.
You will engage in strategic initiatives, process improvements, and key business priorities alongside experienced leaders, gaining comprehensive knowledge of banking operations. A notable feature of the programme includes a dedicated three-month placement within a bank branch, deepening your understanding of customer interactions and frontline operations.
Based in Auckland, the programme lasts approximately 10-12 months, beginning with an immersive induction alongside the wider graduate cohort to strengthen your grasp of Westpac New Zealand. Upon completion, you will receive support to secure a role that aligns with your strengths and career ambitions.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to diverse projects including process optimizations, technology rollouts, and operational efficiency enhancements.
- Analyze data to detect trends and provide actionable insights to guide business decisions.
- Map and document business processes to highlight improvement opportunities and refine operations.
- Engage collaboratively with stakeholders across various business levels, including senior leadership.
- Assist in creating and maintaining business performance reports and progress metrics.
- Support operational risk management by identifying risks and ensuring compliance with regulations.
- Participate in initiatives aimed at improving business processes, lowering costs, and elevating customer satisfaction.
Candidate Profile
Ideal candidates are final-year students or recent graduates (within the last 12 months) holding undergraduate or postgraduate degrees. Applicants must be New Zealand or Australian citizens or permanent residents. We seek driven individuals passionate about operations, process improvement, and problem-solving. Strong academic performance in business-related areas such as Business, Operations Management, or Finance is preferred.
Essential attributes include effective communication, teamwork abilities, a proactive approach, flexibility to manage shifting priorities, and a solid work ethic dedicated to high-quality outcomes.
