Construction Planner

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Construction Planner to lead the scheduling efforts on refinery projects. This role demands the development and maintenance of comprehensive, logically linked construction schedules, adherence to project specifications, and collaboration across multiple disciplines and stakeholders involved in refinery construction.

Key Responsibilities

• Create and manage detailed construction schedules using Primavera P6, ensuring all activities are logically sequenced and appropriately linked across various trades such as civil, structural, mechanical, piping, insulation, painting, electrical, and instrumentation.
• Establish baseline schedules, optimize sequencing and execution strategies in alignment with refinery project requirements.
• Engage with construction contractors to obtain detailed Level 4 schedules, compare them with internal plans, and optimize as needed.
• Define work breakdown structures and develop construction work packages collaboratively with engineering and construction teams.
• Implement robust methodologies for accurate progress measurement and control, monitor schedule variances, identify critical path shifts, and detect potential delays.
• Coordinate with contractors and company supervisors to ensure accurate progress reporting.
• Generate comprehensive weekly and monthly reports including S-curves, manpower histograms, productivity metrics, and look-ahead schedules.
• Conduct schedule risk assessments and formulate recovery and mitigation strategies.
• Provide support for forensic schedule assessments, time impact analyses, and claims adjudication.
• Interface with engineering, procurement, construction, QA/QC, HSE, and commissioning units to ensure seamless schedule integration.
• Incorporate subcontractor schedules into the master timeline and confirm alignment with overall project milestones.
• Participate in constructability evaluations, turnaround planning, and strategize work packaging.
• Evaluate impacts from design changes, scope alterations, procurement delays, and site constraints on schedules; advise management on risks and mitigation steps.
• Administer schedule-related change orders and extensions of time.
• Ensure all planning activities are compliant with project control procedures, contractual stipulations, and company standards.
• Promote safety by integrating HSE milestones and constraints within the construction schedule.

Required Qualifications and Skills

• Minimum of 10 years’ experience in planning and scheduling within oil and gas projects, with hands-on refinery construction involvement including both brownfield and greenfield developments.
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering disciplines (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical) or Construction Management.
• Advanced expertise with Primavera P6 is required.
• Comprehensive knowledge of refinery construction disciplines including piping, structural steel, mechanical equipment, electrical & instrumentation, and insulation.
• Proven ability in advanced schedule analyses, recovery planning, and support for claims processes.
• High proficiency with Excel and familiarity with planning and reporting tools like Power BI is beneficial.
• Strong leadership qualities coupled with excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Detail-oriented with sound analytical and decision-making capabilities.
