About the Role

Join our dedicated small team at Porirua City Council to provide exceptional building compliance services that impact the community positively. In this pivotal position, your expertise in regulatory compliance and sound decision-making will ensure safety and legality in building operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct on-location audits of building compliance, including examination of building warrants of fitness (BWoF), specified systems, and fire escape routes.
  • Generate thorough and precise compliance audit reports tailored to building owners and industry specialists.
  • Manage compliance schedules and BWoF tasks by reviewing submissions and issuing compliance documentation.
  • Inspect and evaluate applications for certificates of public use to facilitate informed decisions.
  • Implement suitable education, enforcement, and compliance measures to address building non-conformities and respond to complaints.
  • Assist in pool barrier audits and handle certificate of acceptance processing.
  • Contribute to assessments of specified systems for consent applications.
  • Administer cost recovery procedures for audits and BWoF submissions.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Proven background in compliance, investigations, enforcement, or building regulatory sectors.
  • Competency in interpreting legislation with strong judgment and clear decision-making abilities.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of building compliance principles, particularly BWoF and compliance schedules.
  • Familiarity with the Building Act 2004 and associated regulatory frameworks.
  • Excellent communication skills with an aptitude for constructive collaboration among diverse stakeholders such as building owners, tenants, and professionals.
  • Organizational proficiency in documentation, record management, and time prioritization.
  • Dedication to continuous professional development.
  • Possession of a current, unrestricted driver's license valid in New Zealand.
