Job description
Role Overview
We are looking for a skilled and detail-oriented Buyer / Yard and Materials Coordinator to enhance our construction operations. This role involves managing procurement of construction materials, overseeing inventory control at our yard and shop, and ensuring timely distribution of supplies to project sites. Due to its fly-in/fly-out nature, the role requires adherence to a rotational travel schedule to various project locations.
Key Duties
- Procure construction-related materials, tools, equipment, and supplies essential for projects.
- Create, issue, and monitor Purchase Orders to track procurement progress.
- Solicit and compare supplier quotes to ensure cost-effectiveness.
- Collaborate with Project Managers, Supervisors, Foremen, and shop personnel for material coordination.
- Monitor orders from placement through delivery, guaranteeing material availability aligned with project timelines.
- Verify received deliveries against purchase orders and packing slips to ensure accuracy.
- Maintain precise documentation of materials procured, received, transferred, and allocated to projects.
- Manage inventory in yard and shop, ensuring materials are well-organized, labeled, and locatable.
- Keep an updated inventory of tools and commonly used construction supplies, monitoring reordering needs.
- Coordinate transfers of materials among yard, shop, and construction sites efficiently.
- Communicate continuously with suppliers regarding pricing, stock availability, delivery schedules, and any discrepancies.
- Anticipate and plan for upcoming material requirements to prevent project delays through proactive team coordination.
- Utilize Microsoft Excel and other software tools to maintain purchasing, inventory, and delivery records accurately.
- Develop tracking systems for inventory, purchase orders, deliveries, and project materials.
- Ensure yard and shop areas remain organized with safe and efficient storage solutions.
- Assist in scheduling deliveries and pickups as needed to maintain workflow.
- Provide general support to the project team concerning purchasing and material management.
Qualifications and Experience
- Prior experience in roles related to construction purchasing, procurement, material coordination, or inventory management.
- Familiarity with construction materials, tools, equipment, and industry practices is advantageous.
- Proven ability to create and manage Purchase Orders effectively.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and general Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong organization and time-management skills with keen attention to detail.
- Capacity to handle multiple projects and deadlines concurrently.
- Fluency in both English and French is mandatory.
- Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration with suppliers and construction teams.
- Self-motivated with the ability to independently manage purchasing and inventory responsibilities.
- Comfortable working across office, construction yard, and shop environments.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license is considered a plus.
