About the Internship

This paid summer internship lasts 12 weeks, from November 23 to February 19, offering a living wage of $29.90 per hour and providing practical experience, guidance, and skill development. Interns will engage in meaningful projects that impact services and initiatives to enhance Tāmaki Makaurau's future and improve Auckland residents' outcomes.

Internship Role Details

The Healthy Waters and Flood Resilience department at Auckland Council seeks an intern to join the Asset Management Centre of Excellence. This team oversees the governance, management, and continuous improvement of asset information, crucial for infrastructure planning, operation, maintenance, and investment. Accurate asset data supports informed decision-making, risk management, and service delivery.

Intern Responsibilities

• Assist in developing and maintaining asset data standards and business rules
• Review asset data to find ways to enhance quality and consistency
• Support initiatives involving asset information governance and data management
• Help document asset information requirements, standards, and processes
• Analyze asset data and help report on data quality metrics
• Work with spatial and asset information systems to manage infrastructure information
• Contribute to projects that improve asset information management and accessibility within Auckland Council

Candidate Profile

Applicants should be curious and analytical, interested in how data enhances infrastructure and environmental outcomes. A passion for data, problem-solving, and collaborating with diverse groups is essential. This opportunity suits students from fields such as Geographic Information Systems, Information Management, Data Science, Business Analytics, Computer Science, Civil or Environmental Engineering, and Environmental Science.

Eligibility Criteria

• Currently in the penultimate year of a relevant bachelor’s degree or continuing in a master’s program
• Eligible to work full-time in New Zealand between November 23, 2026, and February 19, 2027
• Possession of at least a New Zealand Restricted Driver’s License is preferred
