Architectural Designer - 3 Month Contract

About the Role

We are offering a 3-month contract for an architect passionate about merging architectural design with software innovation in residential construction technology. This position involves leveraging cutting-edge tools to create scalable, buildable floor plans and interior designs, all while developing systems that automate and streamline repetitive tasks. You'll be the first technical hire working closely with the founder of a construction tech startup, transforming the housing development landscape by enabling rapid production of assembly-ready homes.

Responsibilities

• Produce scalable residential designs including floor plans and interior layouts, developing parametric libraries that generate multiple buildable variants from a single plan.
• Implement AI-driven workflows using Claude Code to automate design variations and reduce turnaround from weeks to hours.
• Ensure designs translate seamlessly into manufacturable and assemblable components considering materials like steel, timber, and freight logistics.
• Fully take over design tasks to free the founder to concentrate on commercial activities, minimizing their need to engage with design files.

Requirements

• Mid-level trained architect with hands-on experience in real projects and client interactions, understanding construction processes and costs.
• Expertise with design software such as Revit, Rhino, ArchiCAD, Grasshopper, or equivalents with proficiency beyond novice learning.
• Advanced capability in directing AI coding tools like Claude Code, including prompt crafting, debugging, and quality assurance.
• Strong belief in transforming traditional residential design and construction practices with innovative approaches.
• Self-motivated with the ability to independently identify and execute necessary design tasks in a remote, lean team environment.
• Independent thinker with a principled approach to decision-making, capable of open debate and committed to outcomes.

• Senior architects from large firms who have automated parts of their own work and are seeking new challenges.
• Computational designers advocating for change within architectural practices.
• Architects transitioning back to the profession from technology sectors with a desire to innovate.

Additional Information

This is a remote contract role of three months duration embedded within an actively operating startup. The position is not limited to routine drafting or rendering but involves genuine ownership of design and tool development integrating architecture and AI.
