Position Overview
The Administrative Clerk II role at the Jasper County Assessor's Office involves assisting customers and performing a variety of administrative duties related to property management and taxation.
Key Responsibilities
- Recording property transfers, receiving and stamping deeds, maintaining a deed processing log, submitting property split information to the Mapping Technician, mailing necessary forms, and compiling sales reports for public access.
- Entering data accurately into computer systems and verifying property and parcel details.
- Preparing and mailing courtesy tax bills to new property owners.
- Calculating and compiling rollback tax data for audit purposes.
- Providing information to the public in person and over the phone about parcel numbers, addresses, property locations, appraised values, legal residence status, and agricultural designations.
- Supporting appraisers and mappers with their tasks.
- Handling deeds and conducting legal residence verifications.
- Cross-training to handle multiple scenarios and working independently with self-motivation.
- Collecting payments, issuing receipts, and processing mailing address changes for property owners.
- Assisting the public with GIS software and map retrieval.
- Issuing mobile home and moving permits, collecting related fees, and providing receipts.
- Performing additional duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge and Skills
- Understanding of department policies and procedures.
- Familiarity with real estate documentation including deeds, plats, and sales contracts.
- Ability to read and interpret maps and deed information accurately.
- Competence in basic mathematical calculations.
- Proficiency with computers and standard office equipment.
- Strong public interaction skills.
- Effective verbal and written communication abilities.
Minimum Qualifications
- Reading, writing, and math skills at the high school level or equivalent.
- One to two years of relevant experience, apprenticeship, or similar role showing understanding of core job duties.
Physical and Work Environment
Most tasks are performed sitting at a desk with occasional standing, bending, crouching, or stooping. Lifting of light and heavy objects may be required. The work is conducted in an office setting.
Preferred Education and Experience
High School Diploma or GED is preferred.
