Job description

About Finsol

Finsol, based in New Zealand, is a financial advisory firm dedicated to long-term wealth creation and protection through education and empowerment. Since 2010, it has assisted thousands of clients by delivering integrated strategies combining lending, insurance, KiwiSaver, and investing across various locations. Finsol Accounting extends this approach to business advisory and tax compliance, focusing on business owners and property investors seeking more than routine accounting. Emphasizing clear practical advice, it integrates accounting, tax advisory, and business planning to help build sustainable, tax-efficient businesses.

Role Overview

This full-time Chartered Accountant & Business Adviser position is located in the North Shore or Hawke's Bay office, partnering closely with co-founder Paul Ejamme and Gareth Dobson. The role is the lead for Finsol Accounting, aiming to develop and expand the service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage comprehensive accounting services for business owners and property investors, including annual accounts, tax returns, GST compliance, trust structures, and IRD liaison.
  • Process financial transactions, maintain precise ledgers, reconcile accounts, and support month-end and year-end closure activities.
  • Prepare financial statements and reports complying with accounting standards and regulations.
  • Advance from compliance to advisory by conducting strategic reviews, analyzing cashflow, profitability, growth, budgeting, forecasting, and business planning with clients.
  • Collaborate with financial advisers to align accounting and tax strategies with overall wealth plans.
  • Build trustworthy client relationships through clear, jargon-free communication and proactive issue resolution.

Essential Qualifications & Experience

  • Certified Chartered Accountant with valid practicing certificate.
  • Three to eight years experience in public practice, preferably at a mid-tier firm with SME client exposure.
  • Strong skills in financial accounting, ledger management, reconciliation, and closing processes.
  • Experience with SME and property investor clients including tax planning, trust structures, GST, and cashflow management.
  • Knowledge of tax compliance, regulations, and internal control best practices.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and spreadsheets; adaptability to new systems.
  • Business advisory focus with ability to discuss financial strategies and insights beyond compliance.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication capabilities.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively under tight deadlines.

Desirable Attributes

  • Experience in integrated advisory environments or working alongside financial advisers.
  • Demonstrated skill in regular strategic client advisory beyond annual compliance.
  • Interest in technology-driven client services and platform-based delivery.
  • Passion for empowering business owners through education and insightful accounting.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base salary range of NZD 90,000 to 120,000 depending on experience and certification.
  • Profit sharing potential upon reaching profitability targets.
  • Opportunity to develop and lead the accounting practice within an established financial advisory firm.
  • Existing warm client referrals to support a smooth practice start.
  • Close collaboration with engaged partners rather than passive investors.
  • Support staff including a senior bookkeeper working part-time and virtual assistants.
  • Autonomy to design service models, client tiers, technology, and advisory approaches.
  • Equity options with capital contribution and growth opportunities tied to performance.
  • Hybrid working arrangement with office base options at North Shore or Hawke's Bay.
