Overview
This role is focused on underwriting Jewellers Block, Fine Art & Specie insurance accounts within the Property division, specifically targeting Asia Pacific markets. The position requires providing expert advice on underwriting concerns while enhancing the company's market reputation.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and grow a profitable portfolio of Jewellers Block, Fine Art & Specie business for the Asia Pacific region as part of the Property team.
- Create bespoke underwriting solutions adhering to team guidelines and policies to attract and retain clients.
- Track premiums, claims, and costs per contract, implementing corrective actions to assure long-term account profitability.
- Determine appropriate risk premiums by analyzing risk costs, reinsurance, capital exposure, and administrative expenses, utilizing rating models where appropriate.
- Oversee and guide peer underwriters to maintain profitability and efficient account management.
- Supervise underwriting assistants ensuring compliance with policies and conformity across the team.
- Adhere to Beazley’s underwriting standards for business through Lloyd’s or internal MGAs.
- Collaborate closely with claims managers and assist in coordinating between claims counsel and adjusters.
- Advise and support clients on insurance and risk-related matters to ensure satisfaction.
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with clients, brokers, and cedants.
- Promote awareness of the wider product range and identify opportunities to cross-sell services to clients.
- Develop and implement standardized underwriting policies and best practices within the Beazley group.
- Collaborate with team members to maximize business opportunities and profitability through sharing insights and resources.
- Create presentations and marketing materials, as well as prepare business plans and research for the account.
- Maintain adherence to company core values emphasizing boldness, continuous improvement, and integrity in all interactions.
- Follow all internal policies, training requirements, and regulatory standards including PRA and FCA codes of conduct.
Qualifications and Skills
- Minimum of a graduate-level education.
- Proven underwriting expertise with accuracy and strong numerical skills.
- Proficient in computer use including advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and MS Office.
- Excellent analytical abilities and attention to detail.

- Strong time management, prioritization, and deadline adherence capabilities.

Experience and Knowledge
- Significant underwriting or reinsurance broking experience in Jewellers Block, Fine Art & Specie, Marine Cargo or Property insurance.
- Comprehensive understanding of insurance markets across various countries, especially in Asia Pacific, with well-established broker and cedant contacts.
- Sound commercial and financial acumen.
- In-depth knowledge of underwriting policies, philosophies, and procedures.
- Advanced understanding of underwriting systems and processes.
- Strong client service background.
