About the Company

Egis is an international group working across architecture, consulting, construction engineering, operations, and maintenance. The organisation develops and runs smart infrastructure and buildings designed to support climate resilience and sustainable growth.

With a workforce of about 20,500 people in more than 100 countries, Egis delivers technical solutions for complex client challenges across areas such as motorways, tramways, water and wastewater, and smart cities.

In Ireland, Egis has been active since 1994 and is now one of the country’s major multidisciplinary consultancy, engineering, and operations firms. Its Irish work spans the full lifecycle of infrastructure, from early feasibility studies through design, construction supervision, delivery, and operations. Current activities include running the Dublin Tunnel and Jack Lynch Tunnel in Cork, managing 470 km of motorways, and supporting major transport and mobility projects. Following the 2023 acquisition of JB Barry & Partners, the engineering team in Ireland has expanded to nearly 200 people across offices in Dublin, Castlebar, Cork, and Limerick.

Role Overview

Egis is seeking a Technical Director or Associate Director to provide senior leadership within its consultancy practice, with responsibility for a varied portfolio of transport infrastructure projects. The role combines programme oversight, technical direction, resource planning, client engagement, and contribution to the business strategy.

This position is intended for a Chartered Engineer with more than 15 years of experience who is ready to step into a high-impact leadership role in a growing consultancy environment. The successful candidate will help guide the development of the transport business while ensuring delivery of complex, multidisciplinary work and maintaining strong client relationships.

Key Duties

  • Set direction and provide senior oversight across multiple transport and infrastructure assignments.
  • Guide multidisciplinary teams and project managers so delivery remains aligned with client needs and organisational goals.
  • Serve as a senior relationship lead for major clients.
  • Manage programme-level planning, budgeting, staffing, and risk control to support efficient project delivery.
  • Promote technical quality and design excellence throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Help define delivery approaches and improve internal systems and working methods.
  • Contribute to commercial decisions, including contract approaches, fee submissions, variation management, and profitability.
  • Coach and support team members while helping strengthen the transport team.
  • Collaborate with the Service Line Director and wider leadership group on strategy, team organisation, hiring, and long-term growth.

Requirements

  • Chartered Engineer status with Engineers Ireland, or an equivalent internationally recognised professional body.
  • At least 15 years of experience in transport infrastructure design and delivery.
  • Deep experience across the planning, design, and execution of large, complex infrastructure projects through all stages.
  • Demonstrated capability in managing project portfolios and programmes, with solid commercial and contractual understanding.
  • Strong background in stakeholder engagement, client management, and collaborative project delivery.
  • Broad technical understanding of transport infrastructure, including roads, public transport, and active travel.
  • Working knowledge of Irish design standards and guidance, including TII Publications, DMURS, NTA PAGs, and the Cycle Design Manual.
  • Proven success delivering work with Local Authorities and the NTA.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and influencing abilities.

Additional Information

This is a strategic leadership role within a forward-looking consultancy with access to complex, high-profile projects. The position offers the chance to influence business direction and key decisions, work with a collaborative and inclusive leadership team, and access hybrid and flexible working arrangements. Egis also offers a market-leading salary and benefits package, along with CPD and career development support at Director level.
