Job Overview

This role involves essential pre-operational duties, requiring accreditation as a Rigger and Signalman by the Ministry of Manpower (MOM). The position mandates strict adherence to safety protocols including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

Responsibilities of a Rigger

• Ensure cargoes are securely rigged, balanced, and stable prior to lifting operations.
• Confirm that cargo weights do not exceed the safe operational limits of lifting equipment.
• Protect cargo and rigging by placing adequate padding.
• Report any defects found in lifting gear to the supervisory team promptly.
• Identify and alert others to any safety hazards during lifting.
• Implement tag lines to control cargo movement when necessary.
• Communicate difficulties or safety concerns immediately to Foreman, Senior Lifting Officer (SLO), or Lifting Supervisor (LS).
• Carry out lifting operations according to the prescribed job scope.

Responsibilities of a Signalman

• Verify with the rigger the secure rigging of cargo before giving lift signals.
• Ensure all personnel are clear from the hazardous 'line of fire' prior to signaling.
• Use precise hand signals to guide crane operators safely to designated locations.
• Position yourself to be clearly visible to the crane operator.
• Do not simultaneously handle or rig cargoes while signaling.
• Promptly report any difficulties communicating with crane operators to supervisory staff.
• Escalate any safety concerns immediately to Foreman, SLO, or LS.
• Perform duties conforming to the assigned job responsibilities.

Additional Tasks

• Support general administrative duties as required.
• Coordinate with the Jurong Port SMC team regarding administrative needs.
