Job description

Overview

This role requires close coordination with procurement, finance, customs, and shipping teams to facilitate timely and compliant clearance of imported and exported goods. The focus is on document verification, customs duty management, shipment tracking, and statutory compliance to optimize company operations and minimize costs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with Mumbai procurement and raw-material teams to plan shipments approximately three months ahead.
  • Ensure timely receipt of required customs documents 4 to 7 days prior to shipment arrival and verify their accuracy in accordance with customs regulations and contracts.
  • Facilitate duty exemptions under Free Trade Agreements by guiding procurement to obtain and verify Certificates of Origin (COO) for imports.
  • Monitor shipments from non-FTA countries and liaise with DGFT for Advance Authorization issuance.
  • Cross-check invoices before submitting to customs authorities and verify draft COO documents promptly.
  • Communicate and follow-up on original COO documents prior to shipment arrival.
  • Coordinate with Custom House Agents (CHA) for preparing bills of entry checklists, filing, and tracking bill of entry statuses.
  • Manage financial approvals and documentation required for customs duty payments and monitor shipment arrival for financial planning.
  • Implement strategies such as shipment bunching to optimize funding costs and interest savings.
  • File Bills of Entry post Import General Manifest (IGM) filing for both duty payment and duty-free under advance authorization, ensuring swift customs clearance.
  • Manage container movement from port to inland container depots to delay payment and reduce interest expenses.
  • Ensure coordinated PO entry approvals and timely customs duty payments by collaborating with finance and procurement teams, confirming payments via IECGATE system.
  • Oversee customs discharge procedures to obtain bills of entry for cargo release and secure Cenvat credit for IGST.
  • Handle export documentation including shipping bills for claiming export incentives and ensure timely submission and clearance.
  • Manage bunker differential duty calculations, verifications, payments, and related documentation with all concerned stakeholders.
  • Maintain effective statutory compliance by ensuring all customs procedures and notifications are accurately followed.

Additional Information

  • Close collaboration required with shipping lines, jetty teams, bank officials, DGFT, finance, commercial, and CHA teams.
  • Process intense document verifications and timely follow-ups to avoid delays and save costs.
