Role purpose and business impact
This position is accountable for the overall running of the store and for delivering strong commercial outcomes. The store manager is expected to review performance data, identify gaps, and work with the District Manager or other retail support teams where needed. The role focuses on improving sales, productivity, profitability, compliance, and day-to-day store execution.
Key responsibilities
- Own the store end-to-end and be responsible for its commercial performance.
- Use sales and operational data to question current practices and identify improvement areas.
- Partner with the District Manager or relevant back-office teams to resolve issues and implement fixes.
- Continuously improve store sales, efficiency, and profitability.
- Protect the store’s legal and financial integrity.
- Lead by example on the shop floor, spending maximum time selling and guiding the team.
- Ensure a manager is always available on the sales floor and keep the team focused on customers and sales.
- Prepare staff schedules so customer service, sales targets, and task completion are all supported.
- Act as a brand representative by consistently demonstrating the brand’s attitude and values.
- Maintain correct brand execution in store according to standards and operating instructions.
- Make sure all team members are trained on core and seasonal brand and product knowledge.
- Run store operations in a structured and efficient way following all policies and procedures.
- Maintain visual merchandising and in-store communication standards at all times.
- Ensure incoming merchandise is processed the same day and made available to customers without delay.
- Oversee fast and accurate cash register handling.
- Apply all loss prevention measures and procedures effectively.
- Maintain a safe, orderly, and productive environment for customers and employees.
- Handle recruitment and training for store team members.
- Ensure HR policies and procedures are followed.
- Build a high-performance culture through clear goals, performance reviews, timely feedback, and performance management.
- Work with the District Manager to spot and develop high-potential team members for growth within the retail career path.
- Share effective practices with other stores in the district to improve overall performance.
- Complete required training programs and apply learning on the job.
- Seek coaching and learning opportunities to keep improving performance.
Qualifications and authority areas
Primary stakeholders for this role include customers, peers and supervisors, vendors and support functions such as visual merchandising and facility services, and local administration such as mall management.
Eligibility and required background
Applicants should be graduates or postgraduates from a recognized university. The role requires at least 18 months of work experience in a sports or fashion retail setting with customer and commercial focus, including a minimum of 12 months in store management. Strong verbal communication, intermediate numeracy and literacy skills are also needed.
