Staff Nurse - Intellectual Disability Service

Overview

Trinity Care is inviting applications for a dedicated Staff Nurse to join the newly established Riverview Intellectual Disability Service in Dublin. The role focuses on delivering high-quality, person-centred nursing care that supports the wellbeing and independence of residents in a safe environment.

Essential Requirements

• Possession of a full, clean manual driving licence is mandatory as the nurse will transport residents to community appointments and activities.
• Registration as a Registered Nurse with An Bord Altranais / NMBI is required.
• Effective communication skills across all levels of interaction.
• A sincere commitment to working with individuals with intellectual disabilities.
• Teamwork skills to collaborate within a multidisciplinary team.
• A strong dedication to maintaining high standards of nursing care.

Preferred Qualifications and Experience

• Prior experience or formal qualifications in care for individuals with intellectual disabilities or related client groups.
• Familiarity with HIQA standards.
• Experience in supervisory or leadership roles.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Care Management:

• Ensure all team members contribute to smooth operations while promoting residents’ dignity, independence, and wellbeing.
• Monitor changes in residents' health and coordinate healthcare reviews as needed.
• Create, implement, maintain, and periodically review personalised care plans with input from residents, families, and the multidisciplinary team, aligning with NMBI and organisational policies.
• Assess nursing, health, social, and personal needs and provide suitable nursing support.
• Perform ongoing assessments to guarantee personalised care delivery.
• Maintain meticulous and current documentation and review care plans regularly.
• Conduct regular checks on residents and ensure all monitoring tasks are completed.
• Provide clear shift handovers to team members.
• Administer medications safely and accurately, ensuring adherence to organisational and professional guidelines.
• Respect confidentiality and professional ethics, safeguarding residents’ personal and financial matters.

Communication:

• Attend staff and resident meetings and assist with documentation.
• Maintain effective communication with residents, their families, colleagues, and the multidisciplinary team.
• Promote positive relationships and cooperative teamwork.

Health & Safety:

• Report infections, accidents, incidents, and safety hazards promptly to the Director of Nursing or Person in Charge.
• Support enforcement of health and safety policies, emergency preparedness, and fire safety.
• Report faulty equipment or unsafe conditions immediately.
• Promote a culture of safe working throughout the service.

General Duties:

• Comply with all NMBI and organisational guidelines, and professional standards.
• Maintain required records and confidentiality.
• Notify supervisors promptly if unable to attend work.
• Ensure security and safety of the service premises.
• Follow company policies and procedures diligently.
• Maintain cleanliness and safety of all equipment.
• Support residents' access to community activities including driving as necessary.
• Undertake additional duties as assigned by the Director of Nursing or Person in Charge.
