Position Summary

As an Early Career AI Software Engineer at Notion, you will contribute to defining critical user experiences and accelerating user value discovery. You'll face impactful engineering challenges, lead projects vital to millions, and participate actively in the product vision by collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.

Role Details

Depending on team alignment and business needs, your focus may include:

• Developing AI product features end-to-end, including user experience, APIs, data retrieval, orchestration, and ensuring quality and reliability.
• Enhancing model integration and system performance by focusing on latency, cost-efficiency, safety, and robustness while building scalable model-serving infrastructure.
• Designing evaluation frameworks with automated and human-in-the-loop testing to assess and improve model and product quality.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with your team to prototype and launch AI-enhanced product improvements.
• Lead scoped production projects such as integrating new AI models or techniques, establishing monitoring or guardrails, and optimizing performance metrics like latency and reliability.
• Participate in model evaluations and iteration cycles by building or expanding evaluation datasets, conducting experiments, analyzing findings, and translating insights into system enhancements.

Requirements and Skills

• Less than two years of engineering experience with a strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, and distributed systems.
• Experience or eagerness to build and prototype AI or machine learning solutions through educational projects, internships, or hackathons.
• Familiarity with relational databases such as Postgres or MySQL and understanding the interaction between UI components, APIs, and data.
• Ability to approach problems comprehensively by understanding context and impact on users, while navigating ambiguity and balancing business considerations.
• An impact-oriented mindset focusing on practical tech use to deliver value rather than following trends or specific tech stacks.
• Self-driven communication and initiative in managing work progress, identifying issues, and solving problems proactively.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with technologies including React, TypeScript, Node.js, Postgres, or Elasticsearch.
• Interest in the intersection of technology and society, understanding ethical responsibilities as technologists.
• Familiarity with foundational computing pioneers and their contributions.

Compensation & Equity

The role offers a competitive salary, equity, and benefits package. For positions based in San Francisco and New York, the base salary is estimated between $130,000 and $150,000, varying based on location, role complexity, and candidate experience.
