Role Overview
One Stop Stores Ltd, a Tesco subsidiary, is seeking a proactive Shift Leader to help manage daily store operations in a dynamic retail setting located in Ely, England. This role involves taking charge during duty shifts, guiding the team to maintain a clean and well-stocked environment that surpasses customer expectations. Constant focus on enhancing customer service through hands-on coaching and practical store performance improvements is essential. Ensuring a safe workspace and shopping environment is also a top priority.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead team coordination to provide customers with the easiest shopping experience in the community.
- Manage store opening, closing, and duty cover while making customer- and safety-first decisions.
- Serve as primary contact for operational matters in the Store Manager’s absence.
- Support the Store Manager in organizing seasonal, charity, and community events to foster an inclusive atmosphere.
- Maintain store cleanliness, presentation, and prioritize the restocking of essential products.
- Ensure accurate point of sale and shelf edge labeling, swiftly correcting overcharges and preventing recurrence.
- Handle queue management proactively to optimize customer experience.
- Allocate staff breaks and tasks effectively according to trade flow.
- Use store knowledge to direct practical improvements and deliver timely communications.
- Promote safety by enforcing health and safety protocols among colleagues.
- Suggest operational simplification ideas to the Store Manager.
- Provide tailored customer service, including resolving queries and recognizing exemplary colleague service.
- Address obstacles hindering great service and manage colleague queries or escalate when necessary.
- Ensure appropriate staffing levels, manage shift absences, and secure cover for short-term absences.
- Act as an authorized Keyholder, responding to alarm events to ensure store security.
- Manage internal communications to keep the team informed and aligned.
- Support the Store Manager with absence management procedures, including return-to-work interviews and absence reporting.
- Build strong relationships with Area Manager and People Partner to facilitate advice, coaching, and timely issue escalation.
- Where applicable, operate the Post Office Local service, requiring successful financial and criminal background checks.
