Senior / Principal Engineer – Vertical Transportation (VT)

Overview

WSP Middle East is hiring an experienced Senior / Principal Engineer in Vertical Transportation to join its Dubai team. The position is central to the design, specification, coordination, and successful delivery of VT systems across a wide range of developments.

The projects span commercial, residential, mixed-use, aviation, hospitality, and major infrastructure work. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and clients, offering technical guidance and helping shape reliable, compliant, and forward-looking vertical transportation solutions.

Responsibilities

• Take the lead on designing and defining vertical transportation systems such as lifts, escalators, moving walks, and other specialist arrangements.
• Produce technical reports, schedules, drawings, and specifications that align with project needs and applicable standards.
• Assess VT designs created by others and verify conformity with relevant codes, standards, and established good practice.
• Coordinate work with internal teams including MEP, Architecture, Structures, and BIM, as well as outside stakeholders.
• Work directly with clients, architects, contractors, and VT vendors through all phases of the project.
• Assist with tender reviews, technical submissions, and responses to contractor queries.
• Support on-site activities such as inspections, testing, commissioning, and final handover.
• Help coach junior colleagues and contribute to their technical growth.
• Support business development tasks when needed, including proposals and client-facing presentations.

Requirements

• A bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related engineering field.
• At least 6 years of professional experience in vertical transportation design and consultancy, ideally gained in the Middle East.
• Strong experience delivering VT solutions for large, complex projects such as high-rise, mixed-use, commercial, hospitality, and infrastructure developments.
• Solid knowledge of international and regional standards, including EN, ISO, BS, and the relevant local authority and civil defence requirements used across the Middle East.
• Ability to manage several projects at once while maintaining programme, quality, and commercial objectives.
• Well-developed skills in managing clients, authorities, and stakeholders, with experience in multidisciplinary consultancy environments.
• Chartered Engineer status or active progress toward professional accreditation is considered a strong advantage.
